The Reactive Energy Problem

Financial Penalties

Low power factor (cos φ) results in significant monthly penalties from utility providers, directly impacting your bottom line.

Reduced Capacity

Reactive power consumes transformer capacity that could be used for productive active power (kW), limiting your operational capabilities.

Heat Losses (Joule Effect)

Poor power factor increases current flow, causing excessive heat in cables and transformers, accelerating wear and increasing cooling costs.

Why ICO-R is Different

Guaranteed Performance

We contractually guarantee to reimburse any reactive energy penalty if the system fails to correct the power factor.

Key Benefits

Eliminate Penalties

100% compliance with utility regulations (cos φ > 0.95). No more monthly reactive energy charges.

Unlock Power

Increases available active power (kW) at transformer terminals, expanding your operational capacity.

Cooler Operation

Reduces heat dissipation (Joule effect) in cables and transformers, lowering cooling costs and extending equipment life.

How ICO-R works

Three stages, running continuously, with the result written down.

01

Continuous measurement

The system measures active and reactive power at the connection point cycle by cycle. It responds to how the load actually behaves during a shift, not to a monthly average.

02

Modular compensation

Capacitor stages switch in and out to hold the power factor above the threshold your tariff is billed against. Internal components are sized for loads higher than those actually present, which is what keeps performance stable over the years.

03

Documented result

Every switching operation and the resulting reactive-to-active ratio is logged to the cloud dashboard. That record is what turns the guarantee into something you can audit rather than something you have to trust.

What reactive power actually costs

Your transformer and your cables have to carry apparent power (kVA), but only active power (kW) does any work. The gap between them is reactive power, and you pay to move it without ever using it.

Active power (kW)

The part that turns motors and produces output

Reactive power (kvar)

Carried by the installation, billed, never converted into work

Apparent power (kVA)

What the transformer and cables must actually be sized for

Shrinking the reactive component pulls apparent power down towards active power. The same transformer then has more usable capacity, currents drop, and the penalty disappears.

Modular by design

Compensation is delivered in stages rather than as one fixed block, so the system follows the load instead of over- or under-correcting it.

  • Stages engage only as the load requires, avoiding overcompensation at low load
  • A failed stage does not take the installation out of service
  • Capacity can be extended later without replacing what is already installed
  • Works alongside existing power factor correction, relieving equipment already on site

ICO-R: common questions

How do we know whether reactive power is costing us anything?

It shows up on the electricity invoice as a separate charge for reactive energy, applied once the power factor drops below the threshold in your tariff. If you are not sure how to read it, send us a recent invoice and we will point at the line.

Do we have to remove our existing power factor correction?

No. ICO-R works alongside equipment already installed and takes load off it. That usually extends the life of the existing capacitor banks rather than making them redundant.

What exactly is guaranteed?

The contract covers the reactive energy penalty. If the system does not hold the power factor and a penalty is charged anyway, Enthrust Energy reimburses it. The cloud logs are what the claim is settled against.

How much maintenance does it need?

The components are deliberately oversized for the load they see, and the system reports its own condition through the dashboard, including predictive maintenance alerts. Servicing is planned from that data rather than on a fixed calendar.
